Ever since its rise in popularity, IP telephony has been the subject of some criticism, most if not all of which is actually entirely false. Despite VoIP phones having fixed its downfalls over the last few years, many myths remain. Here are four incorrect myths about VoIP telephony.

Myth #1: Sound quality is sub-par

The truth is, VoIP phone systems with the best VoIP providers will offer VoIP calls which match or even exceed the quality of standard phone systems. VoIP calls are particularly clear over long distances.

Myth #2: Transition to VoIP systems is difficult

Installation of a hosted VoIP system takes no time at all, especially in businesses thanks to the hosted PBX of IP telephony, thus avoiding any hardware installation. With a hosted VoIP system, the hardest part is throwing out old hardware.

Myth #3: IP telephony is only useful for businesses

This may have been the case ten years ago, but while businesses still profit the most from hosted VoIP systems, IP telephony nevertheless offers some great advantages for home users. As opposed to traditional phone systems, hosted VoIP systems provide the user with affordable, stable and high-quality telephony, as well as a host of VoIP-exclusive functions.

Myth #4: IP Telephony doesn’t save much money

The savings you make within your first months of VoIP telephony immediately disprove this statement. Not only are you saving on hardware installation and maintenance fees due to VoIP’s virtual nature (and a hosted PBX), but you are also saving money thanks to the very low price of VoIP calls and packages. You can save more than 50% with IP telephony!

Since the turn of the century, hosted VoIP systems have made immense progress and have overcome past limitations. While already an ideal option, IP telephony will only further improve over time; there has never been a better time than now to make the switch.
