LAW 101
CHARTER OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGELaw 101 (Charter of the French Language), strengthened by Bill 96 in June 2022, establishes French as the official language of Quebec, with phased implementation through 2025.
- French is the official language of Quebec - All business communications must first be drafted in French.
- Companies with 25 or more employees must register with the OQLF and follow a francisation process.
- All contracts, invoices, and marketing materials must be in French. English versions are allowed, but French must be clearly predominant (at least twice as visible as any other language).
- Fines of up to CAD 30,000 per violation apply in cases of non-compliance.
